Obituary Announcements

How to place an obituary in the Lexington Herald-Leader

Funeral home directors and crematoriums assist families with the submission of obituaries. Please allow your funeral home director to assist you in this process. However, private submissions are also accepted. 

All obituary announcements may be submitted to the Lexington Herald-Leader via email in paragraph form as you would like it to read in the newspaper. The email address is hlobits@herald-leader.com. The first 7 lines are free and the charge for additional lines is $9.37 per column line (20-24 characters per line), beginning with the 8th line.  

Submissions must also include the following:

  • Contact name, full address and zip code, and phone number
  • Funeral home name and phone number
  • Date(s) announcement is to appear

Without any one of these components, the announcement cannot be processed and published.  

All photo submissions must be sent via email as a .jpg attachment, not as part of the text in the email. The cost is $110.

A proof of the announcement will be emailed and/or faxed for final approval. Payment will then be required before the obituary announcement is published. Credit card payment information may be provided via email or over the phone.

All of the above, including payment, must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. the day before the announcement is published.

Announcements may also be submitted in person at our offices at 100 Midland Ave., from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. weekdays.

How to place a memoriam announcement in the Lexington Herald-Leader

"In memoriam" announcements may be submitted to honor the anniversary or birthday of a departed family member, friend or loved one.

All "in memoriam" submissions may be submitted to the Lexington Herald-Leader via email as you would like it to read in the newspaper. The email address is hlobits@herald-leader.com. The charge for each line is $9.37 per column line (15-16 characters per line).

Submissions must also include the following:

  • Contact name, full address and zip code, and phone number
  • Date(s) announcement is to appear
